President of Cengage Select, General Manager for English Language Teaching and Cengage Work

Alexander Broich is President of Cengage Select and General Manager of the company’s English Language Teaching (ELT) business, a role he has held since 2017. In these twin roles, Mr. Broich is responsible for the growth and development of Cengage Group’s ELT business, National Geographic Learning, as well as strategic oversight for Cengage Select’s other three businesses, Gale, Milady and Nelson, which each offer globally relevant education content to distinct, attractive markets. In March 2023, Alexander took on the additional role of acting General Manager for Cengage Work. He previously also had oversight of Cengage Group’s US School Business from 2019-2020. Alexander began with Cengage Group as President of International in 2013. He brings more than 20 years of corporate and operational senior-level management experience, with a strong track record in building, growing and developing businesses in changing environments. His strategic planning skills and familiarity with intercultural business practices and communications have laid the foundation for a successful career in setting up and growing new technology-driven businesses. 

Prior to joining Cengage Group, Alexander served as the President of International at Pearson Clinical and Talent Assessment for five years. At Pearson, he drove the international business to double-digit growth, increased profitability, opened up new markets and led the international transformation from print to digital. He led the international implementation of the conversion from traditional print assessments into digital solutions. Earlier in his career, Alexander was the Senior Vice President of Corporate Development at Bertelsmann, Inc. for six years where he implemented development strategies in China, England, Germany and France, among other duties. He also held management positions with Bertelsmann Online Ltd., Health Online Services Multimedica, and Bertelsmann AG. Alexander holds a PhD in Business Administration from Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. He is based out of Boston, Massachusetts.
