Meet Sherman Dean. 

While working in a physically demanding job, Sherman realized he wanted to pivot to a career in healthcare but struggled to find a path that would allow him to balance full‑time work with the training needed to make a change. Through Cengage’s flexible online learning experience, paired with hands‑on externship opportunities, he was able to build the skills and confidence necessary to move forward. Putting his learning into practice in a hospital setting helped everything click—from interacting with patients to understanding the day‑to‑day realities of healthcare work. Today, Sherman works as a certified medical assistant, highlighting how accessible, employer‑aligned learning experiences can help learners build confidence, take action on long‑held goals, and step into roles they once thought were out of reach.
