Cengage Statement on ICE Decision Regarding International College Students in the U.S.

July 15, 2020

Cengage CEO Michael E. Hansen today issued the following statement about the ICE decision to rescind its directive regarding international college students in the United States:

“I’m extremely pleased that ICE has quickly reversed its decision and will now allow international students to stay in the U.S. if their institutions operate online this fall. International students make valuable contributions to higher education in the form of new ideas, perspectives and innovation, as well as the economy at large. And as an immigrant who came to this country more than 30 years ago to pursue a higher education, I know firsthand the importance of living in the U.S. while earning a degree.

“As COVID-19 continues to challenge our country, it is imperative that the federal government and higher education stakeholders work together to support learners. The U.S. higher education system has long been the envy of the world. We must do everything possible to ensure this continues by offering a welcoming environment for all students.”
