On November 3, 2022, Cengage Group submitted comments to the White House Office of the National Cyber Director’s (ONCD) Request for Information (RFI) in support of their development of a National Cyber Workforce and Education Strategy. With more than 700,000 open cybersecurity positions in the United States today, Cengage is recommending a collaborative approach by federal and state governments in partnership with education and private industry, to help close this growing cyber workforce skills gap.
We recommend the federal government encourage:
- Inclusion of stackable, industry-recognized certifications in cybersecurity degree programs
- Integrating computer science curriculum throughout multiple disciplines in our middle and high schools
- Aim upskilling towards certification and incentivize incumbent worker training to develop existing talent
