Cengage Group Comments on White House’s Cyber Workforce, Training, and Education RFI

On November 3, 2022, Cengage Group submitted comments to the White House Office of the National Cyber Director’s (ONCD) Request for Information (RFI) in support of their development of a National Cyber Workforce and Education Strategy.  With more than 700,000 open cybersecurity positions in the United States today, Cengage is recommending a collaborative approach by federal and state governments in partnership with education and private industry, to help close this growing cyber workforce skills gap.

We recommend the federal government encourage:

  • Inclusion of stackable, industry-recognized certifications in cybersecurity degree programs
  • Integrating computer science curriculum throughout multiple disciplines in our middle and high schools
  • Aim upskilling towards certification and incentivize incumbent worker training to develop existing talent
