Sherman Dean is one of those learners. In this blog, he shares how Goshen Health and RTH gave him the chance to advance his career, an opportunity he had always dreamed of but couldn’t achieve on his own.
Balancing Work and Education
Sherman was working in a physically demanding job and knew he needed a change. He dreamed of becoming a medical assistant but didn’t know how to achieve it while working full-time and completing the education and training needed for a career change.
The RTH program’s online component was key to Sherman’s success. With 24/7 access to study materials, he could learn anytime, anywhere, which made it possible to fit coursework into his daily routine without sacrificing his job.
Learning Comes to Life
After completing the online portion of the program, Sherman was eager to begin his externship at Goshen Health and put his learning into practice. For the first time, he had the chance to interact with patients, check vital signs and experience the daily routine and flow of working in a hospital. Sherman shared that everything he studied started to click and he felt prepared and excited to get started.
Education Turns Dreams into Reality
Sherman says he’s deeply grateful for the chance to participate in the RTH program and take the leap toward a new career. Earlier in life, he had an opportunity to pursue healthcare, but it didn’t work out. So, when this chance came around, he described it as a dream come true, and he was determined to give it his all.
Through the RTH program, Sherman realized he didn’t have to stay in a job that left him unhappy. There were other options, and this program opened the door. It gave him the confidence and skills to move forward and feel empowered about his future.
