Education Empowers: Dr. Brittany Soul Sharp
Dr. Brittany Soul Sharp, CEO and Founder of Soul Stone Group, has built a career spanning human resources, leadership development, and the creative arts. When unexpected changes in the workplace prompted her to think about how she could expand her skills and prepare for new opportunities, she turned to education.
Through their long-standing partnership, Vegas PBS and Cengage’s ed2go expand access to flexible career training that helps Southern Nevada residents build in-demand skills, pursue new career opportunities, and support the region’s workforce needs. Brittany took advantage of this opportunity by enrolling in the Adobe Certified Professional and Video Design program, gaining creative and technical skills she could apply to both her career and Soul Stone Group. The program’s flexibility allowed her to continue learning while balancing family responsibilities and completing another degree.
Brittany’s story demonstrates how education can help people adapt to change, pursue new possibilities, and build greater confidence in what comes next. In the videos below, she shares how investing in herself has opened new doors personally and professionally.
Investing in Skills for the Future
After years working in human resources, Brittany had seen how mergers and acquisitions could reshape organizations and career paths. Reflecting on those experiences, she recognized an opportunity to broaden her expertise and become more versatile in an evolving job market.
At the same time, Brittany wanted to strengthen her creative capabilities to support her business. Vegas PBS’s program offered in partnership with Cengage’s ed2go offered an opportunity to accomplish both, helping her develop skills that could support future career opportunities while advancing her entrepreneurial goals.
Making Education Fit into Life
Brittany’s educational journey unfolded alongside significant responsibilities. While completing the program, she was also finishing another degree and adjusting to changes in her family after her youngest son was diagnosed with autism.
The program’s self-paced format gave her the flexibility to continue making progress when a more rigid schedule may not have been possible. She also credits the Vegas PBS team for checking in and encouraging her along the way. Her experience illustrates why flexibility and learner support can be critical to making education accessible for people balancing work, family, and other demands.
Turning New Skills into New Possibilities
Completing the program gave Brittany greater confidence in her abilities and expanded the types of projects she could pursue. She began seeing opportunities to put her new skills to work through contracts and creative projects while continuing to build experience.
One project is particularly meaningful. Already an author, Brittany is using her new skills to illustrate her fourth book, which is dedicated to her youngest son. For Brittany, education has created another avenue to combine her professional ambitions, creative passions, and desire to provide for her family.
Giving Yourself a Chance to Grow
Brittany closes her story with a message for other learners: invest in yourself. She acknowledges that life circumstances and self-doubt can make stepping outside your comfort zone difficult, but she encourages others not to let those barriers keep them from exploring what is possible.
Her own journey is one of gratitude, passion, and resilience. By embracing an opportunity to learn something new, Brittany expanded her skills and created possibilities she had not previously imagined. Her advice to others considering their next step is simple: give yourself a chance.
