Jobs That Make a Difference: Gloria Gonzalez

We spoke with Gloria Gonzalez, Senior Events Specialist, about why she is passionate about creating meaningful connections through events and experiences.

How does your role and the work you do help students and teachers? 

As a Senior Events Specialist, I have the opportunity to create meaningful experiences that bring educators and academic leaders together through conferences, webinars and sponsored events. I enjoy building spaces where people can connect, share ideas and walk away with resources and insights they can truly use.

Whether through thoughtful attendee engagement, strong communication or the details behind a successful event, I strive to make learning experiences accessible, engaging and impactful. While much of my role happens behind the scenes, it’s rewarding to know that my work contributes to stronger connections, shared knowledge and ultimately supports both the educators and learners we serve.

What is something you're proud of that has impacted learners?

One accomplishment I’m particularly proud of was creating a more effective way to track and manage more than 300 conferences. What started as an effort to improve organization became a system that provided better visibility, stronger collaboration across teams and clearer insights into our conference strategy.

This work helped support a more consistent and seamless experience for educators and learners by improving planning, communication and coordination behind the scenes. It’s rewarding to know that it not only helped the team operate more efficiently but also contributed to creating better learning experiences overall.

What motivated you to work at Cengage and in edtech?

I’m motivated to work at Cengage because I believe in the positive impact education and technology can have on both educators and students. It’s rewarding to be part of a company that supports learning, accessibility and student success.

Being part of the Events team is especially fulfilling because I get to see projects grow from the earliest planning stages through execution and final results. Watching an event come together through creativity and hard work—and then seeing the engagement and connections it creates for attendees—is incredibly motivating.

What has kept you at Cengage for over 13 years of your career?

The people and the culture of collaboration. Throughout my 13 years at Cengage, I’ve had the opportunity to work with several different teams, and each experience has reinforced how supportive and connected people are across the organization.

At Cengage, employees are encouraged to share ideas, support one another and work together toward a shared mission of improving learning outcomes for educators and students. Being part of a company with these values has made my experience both meaningful and rewarding over the years.

In what ways have the opportunities at Cengage contributed to your career growth? 

One of the biggest contributors to my career growth at Cengage has been the opportunity to continuously learn and take ownership of meaningful projects. Working closely with cross-functional teams has allowed me to broaden my perspective, strengthen my skills and continue growing professionally.

I’ve also appreciated the trust and support to take initiative, share ideas and step into new opportunities. That combination of collaboration, ownership and continuous learning has helped me build confidence and develop both personally and professionally throughout my time at Cengage.

Based on your experience, what is the strongest element of Cengage’s culture?

One of the strongest aspects of Cengage’s culture is collaboration across teams and divisions. Throughout my experience, there has always been a strong sense of support, teamwork and a genuine desire to help one another succeed.

What stands out most is how consistently that support is reflected throughout the company. From managers to team members, there is a shared commitment to staying connected, working together and advancing a common mission of improving learning experiences for educators and students.
