We spoke with Eileen Colleran, Sr Product Marketing Manager, about why she is passionate about empowering educators with engaging, meaningful resources that bring learning to life and make a lasting impact on students. 

How does your role and the work you do help students and teachers? 

As the Senior Product Marketing Manager for National Geographic Learning’s Social Studies portfolio—and a former Social Studies teacher myself— I’m passionate about helping educators find meaningful, engaging resources for their classrooms. My role bridges the gap between curriculum development and classroom needs, ensuring our programs are not only academically rigorous but also accessible and inspiring for all learners. By collaborating with educators and bringing their feedback into our product strategy, I help deliver tools that empower teachers and make history come alive for students. 

What is something you're proud of that has impacted learners? 

I am very proud of the work I have done to bring the world into the classroom with our National Geographic resources. I recently worked on a campaign with my team called Meet a National Geographic Explorer, where students, parents, and educators were encouraged to write an essay explaining the importance of bringing the world into the classroom for students. We are so happy to offer the experience of a National Geographic Explorer visiting 7 schools throughout the country, either in person or virtually.  

What motivated you to work at Cengage Group and in edtech? 

I’ve always had a deep passion for both education and marketing, and working at Cengage Group was the perfect intersection of those interests. As a former Social Studies teacher, I understand the challenges educators face and the impact the right resources can have in the classroom. EdTech allows me to combine creativity with purpose—developing and promoting tools that truly support teachers and help students thrive. 

What has kept you at Cengage for the majority of your career? 

While I’ve been at Cengage for just three years, I’ve found a strong sense of purpose here—and I don’t plan on going anywhere. I’m proud of the impact I’ve made supporting educators and students through our Social Studies resources, and I’m excited about the opportunity to continue that work. Being part of a team that’s passionate about education and innovation keeps me motivated every day. 

In what ways have the opportunities at Cengage Group contributed to your career growth?  

Cengage Group has provided incredible opportunities for growth—from working with inspiring people leaders to taking part in passion projects that make a real impact. I’ve been able to build systems, contribute to strategic initiatives, and continuously develop my skills through professional development, mentorship, and Employee Resource Groups. The culture of learning and support has truly helped me grow both as a marketer and as a leader. 

Based on your experience, what is the strongest element of Cengage Group’s culture? 

For me, the strongest element of Cengage Group’s culture is its deep commitment to collaboration, creativity, and growth.
