At Cengage, our mission-driven culture creates jobs that make a difference in the lives of learners. Working here means having a direct impact by helping students around the world discover the power and joy of learning. From Senior Software Engineers to Senior Events Specialists our people help give learners the choice in how, where and what they learn.

We spoke with Alexandria Rhinehart, Institutional Account Representative, about why she is passionate about meeting learners where they are and helping people build confidence through education and lifelong learning.

How does your role and the work you do help students and teachers?

In my most recent role as a Senior Enrollment Representative, I helped connect students with career training programs that fit both their goals and their lives. Every student had a unique situation, so my role was to understand their needs, recommend a program that matched their learning style and schedule, and help them take that next step with confidence.

By helping students enroll in programs that were the right fit, I was also supporting the instructors and educators who would be guiding them. When students begin their courses with realistic expectations, confidence, and a clear understanding of their goals, they're more engaged and better prepared to succeed. Knowing that I played a small part in setting both students and educators up for success made the work incredibly meaningful.

What is something you're proud of that has impacted learners?

What made me the proudest as a Senior Enrollment Representative was speaking with students who started our conversations feeling uncertain but ended them feeling excited and confident about their future. Seeing someone begin to believe in themselves again and realize they were capable of making a positive change in their own life was incredibly rewarding. For many people, enrolling in a course wasn't just about education. It was about taking back control of their lives.

I'm also proud to have been part of our webinar team. It was one of the first opportunities for students to meet both their enrollment representative and an instructor before starting their course. Being able to put faces to the people who were supporting them helped build trust, answer their questions and ease some of the uncertainty that naturally comes with starting something new. Watching students leave those webinars feeling more confident about beginning their learning journey was incredibly rewarding.

Whether it was through individual conversations or our webinars, I'm proud to have been part of so many students' journeys.

What motivated you to work at Cengage and in edtech?

I was introduced to edtech after COVID, when I was looking for a new career as a first-time mom. After years in retail management, I wanted better work-life balance while still doing work I was passionate about. The opportunity to combine my sales experience with helping people achieve their goals immediately stood out to me. I've always wanted my work to have purpose, and being able to help someone start a new chapter in their life was exactly what I was looking for.

In what ways have the opportunities at Cengage contributed to your career growth?

I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunities I've had at Cengage. Most recently, I was promoted to Account Manager, and I truly couldn't have reached this point without the support of my leaders, teammates and the development opportunities the company provides. I've gained so many new skills and have been encouraged to keep growing throughout my career here. I'm excited for this next chapter and all the opportunities to continue learning and making an impact.

As a remote employee, can you share a bit more about your experience?

Being a remote employee has been an amazing experience. I didn't realize how much having a sense of stability, trust and work-life balance would positively impact both my performance and my overall well-being. Working remotely has allowed me to be successful in my career while also being present as a mother. That balance is something I never take for granted, and it has made me an even more engaged and motivated employee.

Why is continuous learning important?

I love this question because continuous learning has been such an important part of my own journey. One of the reasons I connected so well with many of my students is that I never finished college, but I never stopped learning. After pausing my college education, I went on to earn my yoga teacher certification, invest in personal development courses and seminars and complete multiple certificate programs based on my growing interests. Those experiences taught me that there isn't just one path to success.

Understanding that people learn in different ways is one of the reasons I fell in love with online learning and edtech. It gives people the flexibility to learn in ways that work best for them and empowers them to keep growing throughout their lives.

That passion extends into my personal life as well. I homeschool my children because I want to nurture their love of learning from the very beginning and help them become curious, confident learners. Education isn't just about earning a degree. It's about continually growing, adapting, and discovering what you're capable of. That's why I'm so proud to be part of Cengage's mission.
